Kicking off my week of first year baby essentials!
Lets start at the very beginning.
If you are currently expecting a baby and plan to breastfeed there is a little secret I need to let you in on.
Even if the baby takes to it like a duck to water there is going to be some uncomfortable moments.
One way I like to explain it is, let someone suck on your bottom lip for 20 seconds (preferably someone you know well!) afterwards your lip will feel a bit sore, a tad swollen. You’re just not used to having someone suck on your lip. Same goes for nipples, in the early days the baby can be feeding for hours and hours at a time and this can take its toll.
Of course if you are ever worried you should have a breast feeding councilor check your latch and make sure all is well with positioning but some pain is very normal.
During this time I made sure I always had Lansinoh Lanolin Nipple Cream handy. I was handed some sample sachets by my midwife as I left hospital so I was confident that this was the best thing to use and most importantly that it was safe to use at the same time as feeding baby. In those early days I would check and check again the labels of everything that came into contact with the baby and was happy that Lansinoh Lanolin cream is completely natural and there is no need to remove it before feeding.
With my now 3 year old daughter I had so many problems with latch and fast let-down (where the milk shoots out super quick and it is quite painful) She was almost 6 months old before feeds where comfortable and Lanolin cream was a big help during that time. I had terrible cracks that would scab and bleed, applying the cream after a feed and then putting a breast pad in my bra would give it a chance to heal and stop the pain of my clothes rubbing. I would make sure I applied it often so that when the baby did need feeding the area wouldn’t be dry as there was nothing worse than the friction of those first few sucks.
Even though feeding Jasper was a walk in the park compared to that I still used the lanolin often enough, those first few weeks when he cluster fed, when he was ill and fed around the clock non-stop and when he started getting his teeth and his latch evolved.
I wouldn’t recommend anything else and the facts speak for themselves.
Lansinoh Lanolin Cream has been the market leader worldwide in Lanolin purification for 30 years.
HPA Lanolin is specially developed to help soothe and protect sore, cracked nipples in breastfeeding mothers, allowing mums like us to continue to breastfeed as the nipple heals.
