Believe it or not, I have my own views on skincare and bathing for a new baby. I am not a fan of bathing them too soon after birth, their skin is covered in the most natural protective substance when they are born I just couldn’t bring myself to be too hasty in washing it away. When bathing Jasper I didn’t and still don’t use any products in the tub. I feel water is enough, nice and warm and give them a good scrub they’ll shine up like a new penny. I have also never been one to use lotions and potions on babies skin.
However way way back when I was expecting Jasper I came across Kokoso Baby coconut oil on instagram. First off I just love to say the name, which by the way means coconut! Pretty soon I was seeing that lots of new Mothers where advocating using it on their babies, so being the band wagon jumper I am I decided to join them!
Jasper had quite awful cradle cap from a young age, I didn’t want to put anything too harsh on it so I began rubbing in the coconut oil while his hair was wet and then gently buffing it away with a towel. This worked so well! He didn’t like lying still while I did it for too long so I did small sections at a time and the results where amazing. He has since not had any cradle cap at all and I’m sure this is due to the continued use of the coconut oil.
I also dabbled with massaging him after a bath after I saw this worked for another Mum to help the baby sleep, Jasper hated a massage but afterwards he would smell AMAZING! So it was worth his squirming just for that.
I use it on any patches of dry skin, on lips, even the ends of my own hair if its a bit fly away (if your’re going to do this use a tiny tiny amount, think full stop size, if you don’t want to work the greasy look!)
I have teamed up with the lovely people at Kokoso Baby to give one of you the chance to win a pot of this amazing coconutty goodness.
